Tool was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1990. The group consists
of Adam Jones (guitar), Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Paul DÕamour (bass)
and Danny Carey (drums). The groupÕs first ep was titled Opiate
and helped establish their credibility as a legitmate heavy rock group. The single,
ÒHush,Ó received positive acclaim. The song was about censorship and
freedom of speech. The video was extremely controversial because the members were
filmed naked with their mouths taped shut. This can be found as a hidden feature on their Salival DVD.
After the release of Opiate,
Tool toured with Rage Against the Machine and Rollins Band. In 1993,
Tool released Undertow. The video for their first single "Sober" projected Tool into the forefront of
the music scene with it's dark imagery, and creative direction. The album featured Henry Rollins in the single,
ÒBottom.Ó The album went platinum. Tool went on the Lollapalooza tour
that summer in 1993. In 1996, they released Aenima. They also had a new
bass player, Justin Chancellor. This was the groupÕs most successful
album to date. With videos for "Stinkfist", and "Aenima", Tool cemented their place in the hard rock scene.
Although he iss involved with another band(A perfect Circle), he still remains in Tool.
In December 2000, Tool released Salival. Salival was a DVD/CD
collection of videos, live shows, and never-seen-before footage. In 2001,
the group released Lateralus. The album shot to the top of the US
Charts.
